Normally, when you unlock your iOS device, you are brought straight to the home screen with the fluid animation of all your home screen application icons collecting on the display.

But if you're into customization and bringing your iOS device out of the norm, then by using a new free jailbreak tweak called WelcomeMessage by iOS developer Lucas Elisei, you can squeeze a personalized greeting message in between the iOS Lock Screen and the home screen application icon animation.

Shown above, we've chosen to have the greeting message of "Welcome to iPhone" display as we unlock our device. As we slide over our Lock Screen to unlock the device, the greeting message appears from the left side of the display and moves to the right. Once we complete the slide, the greeting message disappears and the home screen application icon animation takes place.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application, shown below, where you can personalize the greeting message and customize its appearance:

You'll be able to enable or disable the tweak on demand, choose the text that will appear as your greeting message, pick your own font color, pick your own font, and pick your own text size. Currently, the only fonts you have to choose from include: Apple Gothic, Helvetica, Courier, and Trebuchet MS; the only text sizes you have to choose from are: 15, 20, 25, and 30 points. There are, on the other hand, a large variety of color options available to you, including the following:

    • Black
    • Dark gray
    • Lights gray
    • White
    • Gray
    • Red
    • Green
    • Blue
    • Cyan
    • Yellow
    • Magenta
    • Orange
    • Purple
    • Brown

While the tweak does add a spark of customization to your device, there are a few shortcomings. If you have a passcode, this tweak won't appear right. It seems that the passcode buttons stay on the screen as long as the text does, and this pretty much defeats the purpose of seeing your personalized greeting. On the other hand, if you don't have a passcode, then this tweak will display very nicely, as shown above.

If you want to give the tweak a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository. More customization features are coming in the future, according to the developer. You will need to have an iOS 7 device to install this tweak, and it's compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit iOS devices.

This reminds me of the days when you could have a personal message displayed on your Nokia cell. Usually kids in high school had their name loves ____ lol
