With Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 expected to launch in late summer or early fall, production is already underway for the components needed to bring the next-gen flagship iPhone to life.

Reports out of the far east today indicate that TSMC is already hard at work on the task before them. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, the world's leading contract microchip maker, has been producing the iPhone 6's A8 chip since last month, we're told.

Supply chain sources indicate that TSMC "had won most of the manufacturing orders for logic and power management integrated chips for the new handset." According to today's report from The Economic Times, the new phone, which will likely have a 4.7-inch screen, will "hit the shops early in the third quarter."

It goes without saying that Apple and TSMC are not confirming these reports, but knowledgeable supply chain sources say production is not only underway, it's picking up steam at an aggressive pace.
