As the Galaxy S5 by Samsung is nearing the official release date, first looks and videos are coming up across the web. The latest to cross the web compares the handset’s swipe-style fingerprint reader to Apple’s Touch ID. A YouTube video uploaded by iCrackUriDevice offers a 5-minute in depth clip on the comparison of the two.

Apple’s Touch ID system has been talked about in detail whereas Samsung’s entry has been largely untested. However, from the released footage from today, Samsung’s Galaxy S5 uses a moderately enhanced swipe-style reader. Some of the similarities include both the Samsung and Apple systems embedded in the home button and both serve as smartphone securities.

Take a look at the comparisons in the video below:

No winner was declared in the above video, but the Touch ID usability seemed to be favored in the video. Samsung seems to have a few tricks up its sleeve, one of which is not available on the iPhone; PayPal integration with payments.

Which do you like better? Let us know below!

Honestly. You're writing posts for an Apple forum, and continually posts YouTube links that don't work on Apple devices. I *redacted* to be insulting, but you look like an *redacted* when you do this.

At least it doesn't work on the iPhone, I haven't tried it on my others.

*strong words redacted to not hurt feelings

I also read this on my computer, but it is called modmyi, so common sense would say theres a good chance a lot of people do access it on their phones. You know, via the app. Don't get your panties in a bunch, mom

His delivery might be a bit inappropriate, but he's right. It does seem monumentally silly that a site that specializes in iPhones and iPads post links that don't work in iPhones and iPads.

You must appreciate the irony in that.

Plays just fine on my 5S. I understand your frustration and agree that the links should be iOS friendly.

Link does not work for me. Iphone 4S viewing via ModMyi app.

Agreed, it is quite silly! My inferior iPhone device can't even open a YouTube link, must be garbage, right??

Anyways back on topic. I don't have a 5s but the touch I'd is a better selection and to how it works compared to the s5. Prolly swiping down was the wrong way to go then again galaxy can't make theirs exactly like the touch id.

Yea the galaxy 5 and the swipe down action is alright but the iPhone touch id is great. Not because were on and iphone forum but how it's implemented to work. U hold your finger on it vs swiping down(not up or side to side)

With the 5s you can just press the home button and it unlocks, whereas the S5 requires you to press the power button and then swipe. TouchID is the clear winner here.

Didn't the galaxy have a fingerprint scanner before? Or am I thinking of a different android phone?

I use a 5S as well. Are you using the app, or a web browser?

I prefer Apple's because I don't have to rub my finger over a sensor. I just touch it and it works. Comes in handy because I'll be pushing the home button while pulling my phone out of my pocket and it's unlocked before I even look at it. Or while my phones is laying on my desk, sideways or upside down, I can just touch the home button to unlock it while it's laying there. I think both of those would be more difficult with a sensor you have to rub your finger over.

I bet Samsung can make it EXACTLY like touch ID. Watch out in the Galaxy S6 ;-)
