When you open SpotLight, a cancel button appears at the right of the search bar in the interface, but it doesn't really need to be there unless you start typing, because you can just tap anywhere outside of SpotLight to dismiss it.

A new free jailbreak tweak called NoSearchCancel by iOS developer Dekesto is now available in Cydia's BigBoss repository that will hide the Cancel button from the SpotLight interface until you actually start typing, as you can see above.

As soon as you actually start typing, the cancel button will re-appear, since there's no way to tap outside of the SpotLight interface when it's filled with search result content:

NoSearchCancel is a nice minor aesthetic improvement for the interface of the SpotLight search feature in OS 7. If you would like to give the tweak a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now. There are no options to configure.
