If you're a Facebook for iOS user and you checked the Updates tab in your App Store application recently, then you probably noticed the new Facebook version 13.1 update that was waiting there for you to install.

Facebook version 13.1 doesn't go very specific into what's new apart from "Bug Fixes," but according to Facebook's detailed Debugging file corruption on iOS post on Facebook's Engineering Blog, the update actually does something pretty major – it decreases the application's crash rate by more than 50%:

Recently, we solved a long-term mobile debugging problem and reduced the crash rate for people using the Facebook for iOS app by more than 50 percent.
The post goes through the process by which Facebook's engineers were able to figure out why the application's data would become corrupt for no good reason and it came down to an issue with how the file assignment wasn't acting the way it should have:

The SSL layer was writing to a socket that was already closed and subsequently reassigned to our database file.
If you are interested in reading more about the fixes that went into this update, you can head over to Facebook's Engineering Blog and read it in depth.

Facebook was planning major updates to its Facebook application for iOS every four weeks and the recent update comes earlier than expected. These monthly updates are expected to hold new features and bug fixes for the application for users to take advantage of. Facebook also also been forcing users to move to the standalone Facebook Messenger application rather than messaging in the all-in-one Facebook application (which isn't so all-in-one anymore).

Facebook 13.1 is available as a free download in the App Store's Updates tab in the App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of Facebook for free from this App Store link.
