On Wednesday, Apple released the rumored iOS 8.0.1 software update for iOS 8 devices. The update is rolling out OTA (over the air) and via iTunes as we speak for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

iOS 8.0.1 includes a variety of bug fixes for the mobile operating system, and it is the first update since the public release of iOS 8 last Wednesday. The bug fixes include:

    • Improvements for HeathKit so that HealthKit applications can now be made available on the iOS App Store
    • Improvements for third-party keyboards so that users can use them for passcodes
    • Fix for problem that could cause users to not be able to access Photo Library photos from applications
    • Improvements for the reachability feature on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
    • Fix for problem that could cause unexpected cellular data usage when text messaging
    • Improvements to family sharing
    • Fix for problem that could cause ringtones not to be backed up via iCloud
    • Fix for problem that made it so you couldn't upload photos or videos from Mobile Safari

Those of you waiting to see the jailbreak progress of iOS 8 may want to wait a little while on this update to see what prominent hackers in the jailbreak community have to say about it. More than likely, because it's such a small update intended only for minor bug fixes and not patching security holes, it won't affect your eligibility for jailbreak when an iOS 8 jailbreak is released, but it's still better to play the safe card.

    Stay tuned for more!

Has anyone tested a 4s with 8.0.1? Wondering if it runs better as I am still on 7.1.2.

If you are an iphone 6 or 6 plus user I would not update...lots of reports of no cellular signal and touch ID not working after this update.

On a 4s its been ok for me so far a bit faster than iOS 8 so that's a plus nothing else really stands out

They better keep holding off! I see a 8.0.2/3 in the bear future. What were the beta testers doing this time around? Nothing but Angry Birds? Come on.

    ......beware......

Kind of hard to tell since not everyone is posting but it seems most people who had this issue are using OTA updating. A member on macrumors said if you download the ISPW and do an option click and restore it with 8.0.1 it fixes it. Those of you who updated and have issues should give this a shot.

The update has been pulled now for both OTA and through iTunes. I downloaded it in iTunes but didn't update - now it shows me 8.0 being the most recent version.
