Yesterday, Apple released iOS 8.0.1 to the public, only to pull the update because of some major problems with cellular service and Touch ID on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apple has issued an official announcement Thursday morning stating that the update has indeed been pulled because of these issues, and also to announce that iOS 8.0.2 will be coming in the next few days with fixes for the issues. The announcement also notes that it's a good idea to restore back to iOS 8.0 in the mean time, and explains how to do so.

We have a workaround for you if you have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and you lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. You can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes by following the instructions below. We are also preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it's ready in the next few days.
To re-install iOS 8 over your installation of iOS 8.0.1, follow these steps:

Follow these steps to reinstall iOS 8.0.

    1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Connect your iPhone to iTunes.
    3. Back up your iPhone in iTunes on your Mac or PC. iCloud backups won't restore to earlier versions, including iOS 8.0.
    4. Download the file below that corresponds to your device:
      • iPhone 6
      • iPhone 6 Plus

    5. Select the file you just downloaded by doing one of these in iTunes:
      • Mac: Press the Option key and click Check for Update.
      • Windows: Press the Shift key and click Check for Update.

    6. Press Update to install iOS 8 on your iPhone.

Apple notes that since iOS 8.0.1 had HealthKit functionality built-in, reverting to iOS 8.0 will make you lose the functionality again. You will have to wait until iOS 8.0.2 to use the functionality again.

We will keep you updated on the release of iOS 8.0.2, so stay tuned!

You should install iOS 8.0 again if you were having problems with iOS 8.0.1. Then, update to iOS 8.0.2 when it's confirmed to be safe.

I'm right along with you. New software never comes out without any bugs big or small. I learned my lesson from when iOS 7 was introduced last year and iOS 8 isn't so different from 7. I'll just be patient and wait for my 6+ with iOS 8. Until then I'm going to enjoy my jailbreak.

I seem to remember Scott Forstall got the sack over the maps incident but at least the rest of the phone worked. I wonder if Apple will sack Craig Federighi for this little lot? After all the phones not much good if it cannot be used at all.

I will retire my iPhone 4s 64 GB with iOS 7.1.2 JB as an iPod when I receive my iPhone 6 Plus 64 GB.
