On Monday, Apple has seeded the first beta version of its upcoming iOS 8.1 operating system update for iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, to developers for testing. The developer testing allows Apple to get its software ready before releasing it to the public to ensure that the software is safe and is as bug-free as possible.

The first beta of iOS 8.1 is full of bug fixes, and more bug fixes are expected to hit iOS 8 as Apple continues its development on its mobile operating system. The update could also make some minor changes to the user interface, albeit minor, similarly to how iOS 7.1 made some minor tweaks to the iOS 7.0.6 interface.

Already, Apple has issued two updates to its iOS 8 operating system since the initial release: iOS 8.0.1 and iOS 8.0.2. iOS 8.0.1 attempted to fix a number of bugs, but caused more than it fixed, while iOS 8.0.2 was released to fix the bugs that iOS 8.0.1 created.

9to5Mac also reports that Apple is internally testing releases of iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3 as well, although they note that these are more likely for a 2015 release.

I think 5 had a .2 but I can't be sure. I was actually thinking about that myself earlier.

Edit: Is there any word on what 8.1 will change? Usually Apple has a big fancy "here's what new!" page.

I have a feeling that it will include ApplePay. Though this is just a guess. They did say that it would be up and running in October of this year.

Will they possibly give us dark mode like Yosemite?, I'd love that. That and changeable control centre switches.

I know so many people that would love a dark mode! Plus it would look absolutely stunning on a black iOS device.

Unfortunately even Yosemite has limited dark mode and only applies to certain aspects of the UI. I wish it went across all menus!

I'd take just settings messages and calendar if that's all they changed

I totally agree with you and I love dark mode on my MacBook Pro Retina running Yosemite... That would awesome to have that running on our iPhone 6 running dark mode and I have always had a bloke or space gray model...

Developers get it from the developer page on Apple's Web site.

I know it patches the "Date Trick" exploit used by many people to side load apps without a jailbreak or the app store. Very sad day for my community.

Oh yes. I've heard of that. And used it a few times for some apps. I didn't really understand the date thing to make things work. But all good things must come to an end I guess.
