On Monday, Jay Freeman (saurik) released an update for the Substrate Safe Mode package for jailbroken iOS devices.

The new version 0.9.5000 of the package makes Substrate Safe Mode safer on iOS 8.0 through iOS 8.1.

More specifically, it fixes a problem that could cause SpringBoard to hog the CPU and cause the CPU usage to shoot through the roof up to 100% whenever the device would go into Safe Mode. This would lead to extensive battery drain and problems with heat because the CPU was working so hard.

It is recommended that all jailbreakers go ahead and snag this update. It's available for free in Cydia's "Changes" tab among refreshing your sources via the Cydia/Telesphoreo repository.

After updating Substrate Safe Mode on my jailbroken iPhone 5s running on 7.1.2, my iPhone crashes on startup and it goes to safe mode. I can't get it to run properly without it going to safe mode. Anyone having the same issue?

Who is the developer for Winterboard? Does anyone know a timeline on when that may work? I have no idea how to change SSH, so I am stuck not able to use any themes.

I don't understand why you can't use winterboard when I have themes installed on my 6.

Yup, works for me too on 8.1. Some themes will need to have their file names updated to work on 8.1 but a lot of winterboards functionality is still in tact.

Nevermind guys, I fixed the issue. I just needed to reinstall "substrate safe mode" in Cydia and my iPhone was running back to normal
