Instagram, the popular image-sharing service that has become a sensation on mobile platforms, has launched a new application in the iOS App Store on Monday called Layout.

In a blog post, Instagram explains that the application is used to create photograph collages by combining multiple photographs into one. The application gives you control over where the in the collage the applications will appear. You can drag & drop, pinch to zoom, and adjust the width & height of the photos to get them just right in your Layout.

The application can automatically filter your Camera Roll for photographs that have faces in them so that you're only using photographs of people, but that feature is optional and you can also use photographs that don't have faces in them too; its main purpose is to help you pick photographs that mean more to you and make something great out of them.

Once you're done using the application, it saves your new Layout to your Camera Roll where it can be shared to your favorite social networks, iMessaged/text messaged, or even be posted to Instagram. And if you were wondering, yes you can apply your favorite Instagram photograph filters to your Layouts.

If you want to give Layout a try, it's available for free right now at this App Store link for iOS. Instagram notes that an Android version of the application is coming soon.
