The Messages application in iOS is your hub for sending messages to all of your friends, family, and contacts. It's also a way for important notifications to come through to you when you sign up for SMS services, such as those from your cellular carrier.

If you find that you send and receive too many messages to keep your Messages application's conversation threads organized, then perhaps a new jailbreak tweak called Messages Tag by iOS developer Wang Yangdong could help you to stay more organized through your troubles.

What this tweak allows you to do is color-code conversations in your Messages application with specific colors, as shown above. This could be useful for group conversations, where you want a better way to distinguish who is involved in the messages, or even for categorizing messages threads based on whether they're to/from work employees, friends, or family members.

Using the tweak is incredibly easy. You just tap and hold on a conversation thread from the Messages application to reveal the color applier menu. From there, you can tap on the color that you want to appear to the left of the conversation thread. They do stack with the blue "new message" button without clashing, so you don't have to worry about that happening.

If at any time you want to remove a color code, you can just choose the transparent option all the way to the right instead of a color code.

Messages Tag adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as configure the colors that you have available for your color-coding:

You can have up to five colors at a time and you can use the color picker to have any color that you want for those five color codes.

If you're interested in giving Messages Tag a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $1.99. The tweak works beautifully and on both iOS 7 and iOS 8 devices. Check it out!

Any screenshot on how this will look on 6 Plus with contact pics in the list of messages?

You know those blue dots that appear to the left of messages when you haven't read them?

This tweak puts these dots on that same place.

I don't have a jailbroken 6 plus to show you though, unfortunately

What a money grab. Seriously, I could make this in about 30 minutes and the dev wants $2.

Make it and offer some competition to the tweak!

I would like to see unlimited colors and the ability to name them from the Settings application.
