Apple’s ResearchKit platform appears to be collecting medical study data outside of the US for the very first time after Stanford’s MyHeart Counts app, which was created in collaboration with England’s University of Oxford. The platform has now been opened to participants in both the UK and in Hong Kong.

Prior to the recent news, MyHeart Counts was limited to the US. Its international debut marked the addition of new personalized data-based feedback features that help participants understand what they can do to keep their heart healthier.

For those of you who didn’t know, over 41,000 people had signed up for the MyHeart Counts study since it made its debut. This made it the most popular app out of the first round of ResearchKit apps that were made available. Scientists generally seem to have favored ResearchKit as they feel that it makes the process of enrolling new participants and collecting data far easier than ever before.

Pharmaceutical companies seem to have begun exploring ways to integrate the platform into clinical drug trials. Previously in June, Apple went as far as making ResearchKit available on the iPad which helped the Cupertino California company further.

If you are a resident of the US, UK or Hong Kong and are interested in joining the Stanford/Oxford study, you can download the MyHeart Counts app from the App Store now.
