What earphones do you recommend that are under 20 dollars? Preferably in-ear.

I second yamfox. Those Sennheiser's are nothing but quality. And try the bay first. You can find em under $20 easy.

If you want anywhere near decent you have to spend over $100.

Skullcandy has excellent sound and stays in your ear very well. Their cheapest pair is under twenty bucks (that's the kind I use) and they work great.

    Not true whatsoever..

I have a $40 pair of skullcandy and some $120 pair of Sony, not much difference IMO, the only ppl that need tose expensive buds are those audiophiles/ DJ's, won't make much difference to the average Joe IMO

Yep, so true. I think there's a diff between $10 pair and a $50 but not so much between the $50 and $100. Like you said, only audiophiles or DJ's really need the $100+ pairs. For recreational/casual listening, I'm willing to spend up to $25 for a pair of earbuds. I'm not a huge music buff but I'm also not into crackling sound quality.

I'd recommend SkullCandy. The $19.99 pair, do not last near as long as the $35.00 pair, but if $20's all you got, then I'd get those.
