I have an iPod 4th Generation that will need to have a battery replacement soon.

Is it better to have Apple replace it for $79?

or Should have a another third party vendor replace it for $39?

    Thanks for your help.

If you can afford to get the 5th generation iPod, then I'd suggest getting it. The iPod touch 4th gen is quickly becoming obsolete and soon will be too outdated to even use.

But to answer your question, third party vendors aren't a bad option with small things like replacing battery as long as it isn't SUPER shady. But you can guarantee that the quality and safety of your device if you have Apple replace it of course.
