Ya it just sounds ridiculous to me. I dont see how a ipod could destroy a hard drive let alone a virus on a ipod. Funny.

The repair guy is saying the harddrive is totally destroyed not recoverable and has to be replaced
I think it just crapped out myself. I think he must have googled the 2006 virus.

Ya sounds like a scam to me. Or he just doesnt know what went wrong and is making up excuses. Is he trying to say that because of warranty or something?

Explain what happened and what caused you to take it to a repair shop please. Maybe we can help.

    Also, FYI
There are plenty of members here that are very reputable and honest that do repairs if you don't mind shipping it out. I have had several repaired over the years and would highly recommend someone for you if you wished.
Always check here on the forums for issue's with iDevices. We can help, promise.

Ya he's trying to make excuses so that it isnt covered by warranty. Nothing on your ipod could have caused that. 100% more likely it was just a regular hard drive failure which should be covered in a warranty.

I didn't send it out she did. I have an honors degree in computers, but I have only been messing with iPods and such for the last 6 months or so.
The story I'm getting is that they just plugged it in to charge it and maybe play some music off of it. Next time they went to boot the laptop, they got the BSOD. She sent it away without letting me see it. If it was the hd going I would have just changed it.

Hmmmm, DFU mode and a clean restore would have prolly cured the issue, but you can never be 100% sure till you try.

Honors Degree, very impressive. Your are the Bomb, lolz

Ok all devices from os 0.01b1 to ios 4.0.1 has a bug in the system. This bug makes it able for hackrz to download files in the background to your ipod. (Its this bug JailBreakMe uses) Hope u understood that.

Ok, you are talking about the pdf bug. I dont remember any actual viruses comoing out that exploited that though so dont see how it has anything to do with the OP problem.
