Stop the presses! A new survey shows that Apple fans will happily spend a considerable sum of money on a hot new Apple product.

Okay, so there was a tad bit of sarcasm in that summary of today's biggest Apple news. But can you blame me? A new survey spearheaded by AlphaWise and Morgan Stanley shows that 47% of consumers are already interested in buying an Apple television. This demand comes despite the fact that Apple hasn't formally confirmed the product, it's specs, its features, or its prices.

What's more, Apple fans are willing to pay a 20% premium to get their hands on the Apple television over current, non-Apple TVs. "This suggests that Smart TVs currently available on the market do not offer easy-to-use software to integrate Internet content into users' TV experience," Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said Tuesday.

Although Apple is yet to officially confirm the development of an Apple television, Tim Cook's recent provocative comments about the traditional television being an antiquated relic of the past tells us all we really need to know: the Apple HDTV is coming in 2013.

I won't although if I didn't just get a 55" Samsung I would. I can imagine a dvr to the cloud. Combined with Apple TV and a reliable TV at that.

Agreed, if they can integrate this well, say DVR pushes recordings to iCloud to watch on iOS devices and OS X computer, allowing you to watch your recorded shows wherever over 3G/LTE and wifi, I would definitely buy one. That'd blow my "smart" TV out of the water haha

This indicates to me that those surveyed Apple fans are completely delusional and believe that they are only paying a 20% premium for Apple products when in fact the premium is more near 100%.

If they let you record OTA TV and sync to icloud...there goes all their TV show revenue in itunes. Sorry, not happening.

On a side note, I picked up that $688 60" LED Vizio at walmart on black friday, and have an aTV hooked up to it. $800 for that combo? Cant be touched, I love it.

This will never happen. The networks are already trying to control how you watch your DVR recordings - they'll seriously have a fit if Apple lets you just sling those recordings anywhere for viewing.

Also, watching your recordings over 3G/LTE will screw your monthly data cap so fast that you'll be paying overages in no time.

    Bingo.

Studies also show that Apple is good a encouraging morons to shell out their cash when they can buy something that performs as well or better for about 1/3 the cost so it's no surprise the iSheep will flock to a stupidly priced apple flat panel.... especially if it adds no more functionality than the $100 apple tv you can currently pick up. iSheep will still think it's the best smart tv out on the market as I pick up the "newest" apple tv and a better spec flat panel for 1/3 the cost.....

I guess we'll see when it's announced.... can't wait to see all the "wow, this is the best tv EVER" threads.

Does your tv have a built in dvr and recordings to the cloud that you can stream on all of your iDevices? Didn't think so or maybe Samsung did 30 years ago and apple stole it. Just trying to get it out the way

I have dish network with a sling box connected to a couple of my TVs. And there is an iPhone/iPad app allowing you to connect to it and watch live tv on one of the 2 channels or watch recorded shows on it, which is produced by dish. So Id have to disagree there about not letting people sling shows wherever.

With the data problem, I use the sling app and Netflix and have never gone over my cap, closest I've gotten was 100 MBs away on the last day of my cycle, so I'm not worried about that.

I think they'd allow it for a couple reasons.
1: it'd be a huge selling point that would put them aside from the rest of the "smart tv" world.
And 2: Apple focus' on selling full complete seasons of TV shows And movies allowing you to own them for good (we all know the renting feature didn't really takeoff too well) And me, along with a lot of people I know, record a few episodes (maybe) of a show and delete when there's more then like 3 per show. I think they wouldn't kill there sales for the fact they are more of a "buy to own" type service than a way to catch up on missed TV (which is what I, and many others use DVR for)

A large SSD to hold video locally would be great to.

Why are you even trolling your nonsense here. There are no such studies or you would have linked them. I can spout **** too. Morons who are Apple haters are more likely to troll apple boards because there aren't any other boards that are interesting. Android is ****, it's MS Windows 3.11 compared to iOS. So shave your beard, get a job, and move out of mummy's basement.

I completely agree with both statements. I'd love a SSD for holding recorded shows, but because then hard drive is on the dvr itself, it'd be hard to see this because apple would have to work with cable providers 1 on 1 to make it compatable. The SSD for recording is more on the cable company side than apple. With the 2nd statement, I don't understand why some people care so much what I spend my hard earned money on. I worked, I earned the money, I live in a free country where I have choices, and can choose what I do and don't want to buy. You spend you're money the way you would like to, I don't understand why he couldn't let me ( and others ) do the same.
