Following months of rampant rumors that the company is planning to open a chip fabrication plant primarily to provide for Apple's needs, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) isn't doing much to stop the rumor mill from churning out more speculation this week.

As it turns out, TSMC's July job fair in New York is the latest indication that the company will ramp up production of mobile processors for Apple, as the iDevice maker looks to do less long-term business with major tech rival Samsung.

Piper Jaffray analyst Jagadish Iyer told investors on Tuesday that New York would be a good fit for the new production facility. Iyer believes the company could be planning a wafer fabrication facility in upstate New York, creating an environment where Apple could want to take a portion of risk out of its supply chain given the production possibilities within the US. The Piper analyst suggested Taiwan Semi could eventually become a major supplier in this market.
By Iyer's estimates, a time-frame for the facility's groundbreaking is 12-18 months, "with a plant possibly online within two years."

Iyer's sources insist that the New York-based engineers that TSMC found at its recent job fair may be trained and begin work in Taiwan before full time operations commence in the United States.
