As MMi reported last week, Apple and Samsung resumed their legal battle as Apple filed a renewed request for a permanent injunction against the South Korean tech giant.

Apple went back to its argument that a ban on older Samsung devices is appropriate because the market presence of these “infringing devices” is harmful to Apple.

“Samsung’s claim that it has discontinued selling the particular models found to infringe or design around Apple’s patents in no way diminishes Apple’s need for injunctive relief,” Apple argued in Thursday’s filing. “Because Samsung frequently brings new products to market, an injunction is important to providing Apple the relief it needs to combat any future infringement by Samsung through products not more than colorably different from those already found to infringe.”

But according to a breaking report from The Korea Times, the two warring powers are working to bring about a resolution to the legal conflict very, very soon.

“As far as I know, the companies recently resumed working-level discussions toward the signing of a potential deal. They are in the process of narrowing differences over royalty payments,” said an official at the Fair Trade Commission (FTC).

Once the differences are settled upon, we're told, this persist matter may finally be put to rest.

And that will be one new year's "resolution" we can all appreciate.
