Apple’s September 9th event is now less than a week away, and the Cupertino-based company is not only expected to reveal the next generation iPhone, but its first wearable device dubbed the iWatch as well. Recent reports are saying that prior to the event, Apple’s SVP of Design Jony Ive has already stated that ‘Switzerland is in trouble.’ According to an unknown source, Ive was referring to the rumored iWatch announcement. This was reported by The New York Times, however, they did not release an actual quote from Ive, but only noted that he used stronger language to describe the watch market. This is what The New York Times had to say:

According to a designer who works at Apple, Jonathan Ive, Apple’s design chief, in bragging about how cool he thought the iWatch was shaping up to be, gleefully said Switzerland is in trouble — though he chose a much bolder term for “trouble” to express how he thought the watchmaking nation might be in a tough predicament when Apple’s watch comes out.
Rumors are going around saying the iWatch will be promoting health features as well as have a strong sense of fashion. It has also been rumored that the device will cost consumers approximately $400. Nobody is certain how true any of these rumors are yet, so we’ll just have to wait until September 9th to find out. But if the price quoted for the wearable device is true, it would make it one of the most expensive smartwatches on the market.

Imagining Jony Ive saying "Switzerland is f***ed" in the upcoming product release video is hilarious.

I really wish those "good-thinking people" would stop (auto)censoring, we are all adults, when saying s**t we all know about the "hi" part.

More to the point, 400 bucks ist NOT cheap, especially after paying $700+ for a new iPhone6

$400 is cheap for a "Swiss watch killer". You can't touch a high quality Swiss watch for under $1000 and luxury brands can go well past $100,000.

I just find it hilarious that Jony Ive has the arrogance to say that his version of something Samsung and others have already proven is a niche product with unimpressive sales numbers is going to compete with Swiss watchmakers. I'm sure Patek Philippe, Rolex, Hublot, Audemars Piguet, Breitling, and even lower end Swiss brand like Tag Heuer and Omega are shaking in their boots wondering how to save the Swiss watch industry from Apple's "revolutionary" timepiece.

Maybe because apple has created mass markets out niche markets like tablets, smart phones, MP3 players, and you know... General computing??
