    Apple recently shared their Best of 2014 list for the App Store in various different categories, including the top 10 free apps on the iPhone, top 10 paid apps on the iPhone, top 10 paid iPad apps, top 10 free iPad apps, and top grossing apps for 2014. Take a look below at the top 10 apps from each category starting with the top paid app on the iPhone.

    To start off, the number one 2014 paid iPhone app was party game Heads Up!. The app is by Ellen Degeneres and always makes appearances on the Ellen Show, in which Degeneres plays with celebrities. Heads Up! was released in 2013 and is a game where users have to guess the word while the other person gives clues either by acting out or by talking. Check out the top 10 paid iPhone apps for 2014:

    As for free iPhone apps, Facebook Messenger topped the charts even though it has a 2.5 star rating in the App Store. Many were unhappy with the fact that Facebook removed the feature from its Facebook app and forced users to download a standalone app in order to chat.     The most popular paid iPad app for 2014 was Minecraft- Pocket Edition. Minecraft-Pocket Edition was also one of the most downloaded paid apps for the iPhone as well. It first debuted in 2011 but more than twenty updates have been released since the app was first launched with new features, bug fixes, and better graphics.     As for free iPad apps, the most popular downloaded app for 2014 was Google’s YouTube app. YouTube used to come standard with iOS but was removed in iOS 6. Take a look at the other most downloaded free apps of 2014 on the iPad:

    The top-grossing app for the iPhone and iPad in 2014 was Clash of Clans. Clash of Clans is free to download but in-app purchases are offered for virtual currency. Apple has stated that freemium apps accounted for 9 out of 10 top grossing apps for the iPhone and 10 out 10 for the iPad in 2014.
