Samsung has reportedly hired a new head of global design, Don-tae Lee, who used to be the ex co-president of a design consultancy located in London. According to Korea Joongang Daily, the company is called Tangerine and was founded by Apple SVP of Design Jony Ive. It was noted that the Korean-based company is looking to find the same success with Lee as Apple did with Jony Ive. Lee will be joining Samsung’s global design team.

A little background on Lee- he was born and raised in Seoul, Korea but graduated from the Royal College of Art in London. In 1998, he was an intern who started at Tangerine and became the co-president of the company in 2005. Back in 2001, Lee designed an S-shaped airline seating arrangement and took the Interior Design Excellence Awards’ Grand Prix. Then British Airways went ahead and implemented it in their airline for business and first class seats.

It seems like the only similarity Ive has with Lee is that they both worked at Tangerine. However, Lee started at Tangerine years after Ive had left to work for the Cupertino-based company. Do you think Lee will be able to provide the same kind of results for Samsung as Ive did for Apple? Let us know in the comments below.
