Lisa Jackson, the head of Apple’s Environmental Initiatives division will be delivering one of the keynote speeches at May’s PUSH Tech 2020 Summit. The summit is held by the non-profit Rainbow PUSH Coalition founded by Reverend Jesse Jackson. It wasn’t mentioned what Lisa Jackson’s topic will be aside from that she will be a part of the speaker list.

The summit is intended to explore and promote racial diversity in the high-tech industry and is part of a program called the Silicon Valley Digital Connections Initiative that the organization relaunched in March of 2014. As of right now, the goal is to get more minorities involved at all levels of employment while encouraging businesses to use minority-owned firms and/or invest in minority startups.

The event, which is scheduled for May 6th in San Francisco also has other executives such as Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and Paynearme CEO Danny Shader presenting.

For those of you who didn’t know, the Cupertino California company has a complex relationship with the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. Back in August, Reverend Jackson lauded Apple for disclosing workforce diversity data and admitting it still has work to do when it comes to bringing a better proportion of black, Latino and/or female workers on board.

The coalition also ended up partnering with the United Service Workers West to protest the treatment of contract staff that was working at Apple and other Bay Area corporations. The two groups charged that contractors were being underpaid relative to the Bay Area’s high cost of living. Apple said that it would start hiring a full-time security staff and grant these people access to the benefits that they were previously denied under the label of being a contractor.

We’ll have to wait and see what Lisa Jackson discusses during the May 6th event.
