A new memo from Apple’s SVP of Retail, Angela Ahrendts noted that the Apple Watch won’t be available for walk in purchases in stores until June the earliest. According to The Telegraph, Apple Stores not only won’t have the device when it debuts on April 24th, but for the entire month of May Apple Stores will have to do without the smartwatch. Ahrendts noted that the reason behind the lack of availability is because of "high global interest combined with our initial supply." According the The Telegraph:

"It's important to remember that Apple Watch is not just a new product but an entirely new category for us," she wrote. "There's never been anything quite like it. To deliver the kind of service our customers have come to expect — and that we expect from ourselves — we designed a completely new approach. That's why, for the first time, we are previewing a new product in our stores before it has started shipping."
The memo also reminded employees that the company’s ‘Personal Setup’ service is still applicable with online Apple Watch orders. Those who purchased the Apple Watch will be able to work with an Apple employee at a store to learn how to use their device and how to sync information via the iPhone. Ahrendts mentioned in the memo as well that in the future, not all product launches will be like this and will be taken care of in a better way.
