Amazon recently unveiled its Streaming Partners Program which allows Prime Video subscribers to add streaming services that are normally hosted separately, at no extra cost. As of right now, companies that are partnering with Amazonís new program include AMC, Showtime, Starz, Ring TV Boxing and A+E Network.

In some cases, paying through Amazon is said to be even cheaper than choosing a standalone subscription. An example of this includes Showtime whose price will come in at $8.99 per month when purchased through Amazon, providing users with a $2 savings compared to the independent plan. This lower cost is being attributed to Amazon handling tasks such as customer service and billing along with routing streams through its own infrastructure.

It should be noted that though customers have to pay extra on top of Amazon Prime, which is currently priced at $99, the advantages of doing so include universal search, X-Ray support, unified playlists and watchlists and voice search on Fire TV devices. As of right now, Amazon is also believed to be at the cusp of releasing a tvOS app for Prime video. If this turns out to be true, this could potentially create an unusual situation where the Video app serves as its own hub on the Apple TV. It may also draw users away from other App Store titles and eat into Apples revenues depending on whether in-app purchases are supported. If not, users would be paying only via the Web or other devices, a move which may cut Apple out of the loop entirely.

Weíll have to wait and see what happens and how consumers react.

What are your initial thoughts on the matter?
