Hey guys, help me choose. I know there are lots of threads on this, but they don't factor the newest MBP and they aren't for my specifications!

My uses- primarily work pc, used for app development and such. Will need to dual-boot OSX and W7.

Budget isn't extremely important- under $3k total with all accessories. Cheaper would be better as I could justify adding an iPad 2.

Will have an external display/keyboard/mouse while at my work desk.

Needs to be mobile enough to take with me, possibly frequently. Needs webcam for video chat.

Preferences: high portability (~13" or less), high resolution, matte screen(only 15"+?), SSD for fast boot and compiling.

Normally I'd just go for the new MPB based on the specs and similar price, but people rave about how fast and usable the MBA is. I don't need a ton of storage, and I'm not going to be doing image editing and such on it.

Timeframe for purchase would be now until late April, but couldn't push it off more than that.

Would the 11" MBA be powerful enough? Would the 15" MBP be too bulky? If 13" is the ideal size, is the MBP or MBA better?

Please don't tell me to get more than one, as I'm trying to consolidate PC's right now. I have 4 different PCs/laptops in regular use, not to mention mobile devices, so I'm trying to get one that will replace what I use all of these for (except the dedicated media server).

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Bah.... Go with a MacBook Air 11.6" you will never look back. Since I got my MBA I have converted two friends to MacBook Airs and they have not been able to set them down. You will not be disappointed.

15" MBP 2.3 with Hi-Res Anti-Glare. Then visit OWC and get a 128 GB SSD, 8 GB Ram upgrade kit, and a data doubler bracket.

Yep, it seems like people want either a travel buddy or a spec monster. My concern is that a 15" MBP at 5.6lbs would be pretty bulky to carry around frequently. The 13" MBP is still a hefty 4.5lbs compared to the 13" MBA at 2.9. Not to mention the 13" MBA has a higher res screen (wtf?).

Right now I'm rocking a Dell 10v hackintosh.

how is that screen size for you? I'm still debating between MBP 13 and MBA 11. The screen size is a concern to me as my schooling is largely centered on computer use. I'm concerned the 11 inch screen is too small for me to take screenshots of entire flowcharts or even be able to work on that screen that might be too small for me to navigate efficiently around.

Basically what do you use your MBA for and does the screen size hinder you or rather even just present irritable inconvenience of not being able to see more screen so to speak?

Was it bc the screen was too small for your taste? Could you answer my above question in regards to that?

I'm leaning towards the MBP 13 but I wanted to save some money.

Edit: sorry for hijacking your thread OP.

Thanks Wes, that really helped me make my decision. Spinning wheel on a Mac is definitely not what I would be ok with either.

Coming from you, it means a lot lol.

The MBA just doesnt make much sense to me. I rather have an iPad for portability and MBP as a work horse that is still semi-portable

Yes Stealth we know from the beginning of time you are Mr. MBP lol. If anything I'd get the MBA 13 in the future bc it's a fast little laptop

But until that future time comes, it's MBP for me.
