Some apps like nes.app for example are available through Installer.app, but not the latest version. For the latest you have to download the .app file from the web. I've always installed everything through Installer.app, how do you do it with a web download? Sorry if it's explained somewhere, I searched and didn't find anything.

    1. install BSD subsystem
(from list of apps available from Installer)

    2. install OpenSSH
(from list of apps available from Installer)

    3. Get a SFTP program to SSH to your iphone from your computer
(If using a MAC try FuGu or Transmit. If using a PC try WinSCP? or iPhoneBrowser?)

    4. SFTP settings: Server will be your IP address of your iphone, User = root, password = dottie or alpine.
(get your iphones IP address from Settings->Wifi->click the arrow next to the wifi network you are connected to. you'll then see your IP address)
    5. Place downloaded app in Applications folder.

once it gets updated on the site, it gets updated on the installer as well. It does on mine any way.

Thanks. Forgive my stupidity but this is requires the phone to be connected physically right? It's not over wi-fi or anything is it? (that would be great, but either way is fine)

As for being updated on the site/phone: Again using nes.app as an example, they say on their site that whoever does the Installer updates has been kinda slow, so I compared and there was indeed a difference in versions between the site and the Installer.

I had tried iphone Browser before and didn't find much. Funny thing, after installing SSH it saw all of the folders, I didn't even have to open SSH or do anything with the SFTP settings mentioned. Thanks though!

iPhoneBrowser uses a service on the phone to access the file system over USB. Once jailbroken, you should have access to all files/folders.

WinSCP (or FileZilla) uses the SSH service to access the phone over WiFi. You need to be on the same LAN (or have a public IP) to reach it.

    I'm using Cyberduck 3.0.2 on OSX 10.5.5 with iPhone firmware 2.0.1 (5B108).
Installed Bejeweled as described in the /private/var/mobile/Applications folder and get an error stating "The application "Bejweled" cannot be opened".
I've also changed the permission to 777 and 755. No luck.
Can anyone please help me on how to get applications installed manually and succesfully?
    Many Thanks in advance.

    Hey Everybody.

OK I got all this to happen, but the .ipa file is just sitting there in the Applications folder on the phone amid all the installed programs' folders with long Caps and numbers names. Now what? Inside those folders are arrays of files and folders created in the install process.
Also how do I reveal the Cydia apps when I have the phone networked up to the computer?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

That's what I mean, this is all old information.
You need to search for answers or start a new thread.

    I'm old too BTW.

    Also we need to know:
    Type of iPhone
What firmware you are currently on
    What OS are you using
What are you trying to install....
