For sometime now I was looking for a document reader for iTouch, because Books is a good app. but only works with .htm, .html or .txt files, and PDFReader is crap. Find your tweak made my day, man. Thank you!

    i've read through the entire thread again, narrowing down the problem;
    1. once i uninstall and reinstall Lighttpd, the welcome NEVER show up (it makes sense since i've deleted the index.html and all those hello.** and images folder.)
    2. but why are all these files does not recover when i reinstall the Lighttpd?
    3. forget about the Php, as (correctly installed) lighttpd when pointed to 127.0.0.1 will bring me to the welcome screen right?
My problem is when i uninstall Lighttpd and deleted all the files (index.html, /image and hello.**) even after reinstall all these files does not return.

so my question, how to make all these files recover and make lighttpd pointed to welcome screen with/without PhP installed?

any assistance is very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

My guess would be that Lighttpd checks if folder Sites exists and if it does exist, Lighttpd does not write anything inside.
Try deleting Sites too and then reinstalling Lighttpd. Nevertheless, not having index.html is not a problem here. For some reason PHP does not generate valid index.php which should be a replacement for "default" index.html.

Using Mobile Finder navigate to ~/Sites and see if .dirlist exists. It must not be named :2dirlist or something like that.

Also, go to /var/log/Lighttpd/ and open error.log it with TextEdit.app (double tap on the file, Open With -> TextEdit.app). There you will se if Lightppd is working properly.

    Updated to v1.32

    Version 1.32 (Apr 5, 2008)
    * fixed a bug where folders containing the "+" character fails to open
    * fixed a bug where changing the orientation of Safari messes up the font size

    Hey -V-O-Y-A-G-E-R-

Can I play mp3 files using this viewer?

AFAIK no. But I'll suggest to Kane that he writes a line that will call Erica's Send File app, which can play mp3 files.

Edit: What was I thinking of...of course Safari can play media files!

mp3, aac, mp4 and any other audio and video formats that the phone supports play just fine. I do it all the time. Give it a try.

BTW, -V-O-Y-A-G-E-R- and kane -- nice job expanding and improving the original GUI! You might want to add icons (and into the array) for:

    mp3, aac, mp4, m4v, htm, html

Right now html is excluded by the dirlist, but of course, Safari is fine with those types as well.... =)

Restarting Safari or rebooting your iPhone will probably save the day

could someone point me to a place where I can install Lighttpd?
I tried multiple times, and installer always fails saying "server doesn't respond".
    Thanks

You can also make a symlink to / in the Sites folder, and voila, it becomes a filesystem browser too!

Sweet. I just updated to the latest (I was still on 1.0 before!) and love the video support. Saves me having to edit a html file to get a QT link that would let safari play it. Now I can just dump it in there and tap the play button! Brilliant!

One request that I thought of is could certain filenames be excluded by default. Specifically, I use AFP to transfer files occasionally rather than SSH. Unfortunately, I end up with ":2eDS_Store" files spammed across my iPhone's directories when I do this. I don't care so much in the rest of the filesystem, but they look unsightly in my nicely organised Sites folder.

Edit: I just ran into a (maybe somewhat obscure) problem. I was fiddling around seeing how to password protect a folder. Got that working quite well, but it seems to break the video links in some way as anything inside the passworded area won't play, anything outside will. Still drops into the black QT player, but then pops up an error message. Not a big issue, but thought I'd mention in case it is an easy fix.

Edit2: Still playing with this a bit. I found that after starting a video from a folder of videos, it would often "crash" out of video after 30 sec or so of playback, back to Safari. Then the phone might be unresponsive for a while. There's a number of possibilities why this could happen (# of files (ie RAM), the video itself, or autorotation). From my quick testing, disabling the window.location.reload() call in the autorotation part of the script seems to restore stability. Of course, that re-introduces the rotation font-size bug which it was added to stop.

deltaepsylon: or you can just edit lighttpd.conf and change document-root to "/". Result is the same. And you must move .dirlist to root (I mean root not "var/root").

For lighttpd, the workaround that I use, is to embed the login info into the URL. I have a Springboard launcher that uses the format:

    http://username[email protected]/

Of course a bookmark like this would also work. BTW, that's a colon where the forum is inserting the smileyface....

If you're using Apache, you should be able to use htaccess to get around the problem.

is there a way to not show the breadcrumbs?
id rather it just shw the current folder im in at top.

also...is there a way to have a folder with several jpegs only show the filenames when viewing that folder? mine seems to make each file a preview...and they are quite large and annoying. i only want the image to show when i click the file name.
