most likely the problem is that it isn't really in DFU mode.

    - Turn off the phone
    - Hold the power and home button for EXACTLY 10 seconds
    - Let go of the power button and continue to hole the home button for EXACTLY 10 seconds
-Let go of home button and plug into iTunes and try again.

I had the same problem after a failed bootneuter on 2.0 , only way I could fix it was to downgraded the phones firmware with iTunes 7.5 then go back to 2.0 with iTunes 7.7. But yes you have to nail the DFU mode 100% or it ain't gunna be happy

Thank you so much for this info. It worked so I could restore my phone to an unlocked and jailbroken 1.1.4 state. Atleast it works now and I can sell it. Im gonna wait until zip phone or liberty+ comes out with a program to unlock my 3G. I want installer back. You were thanked.

Your issue sounds like your phones are not in DFU mode. Mine worked the first time when I downgraded.

My 3g works fine no need to unlock.. It doesnt detect either phone. Also it says it is not installed correctly when I start 7.5... Tried a repair on it also no dice.

Its because your itunes folder in your my music directory of your my documents is still there from itunes 7.7, just rename it and then try to reopen itunes 7.5. Then when you reinstall itunes 7.7, just rename the folder back to itunes and delete the new one that was created. It will save your music and restores.
