So I have been trying to get my Iphone upgraded to the 4.0. I downloaded the Ipsw from the how to guide on After following the directions and I get the phone into the DFU mode it seems like it is working. However when it gets to the part downloading the jailbreak. It gets stuck on that part for a while. Then phone restarts and it is still the 3.0 version.

I have read in a cpl of the forums that I need to have the 4.0 already on my phone. However when I try to upgrade the phone with the IPSW that I download iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293 file. Itunes will not let met upgrade my phone with that file....Is there another file that I need to download?

    Anyhelp would be greatly apreciated.

You cannot restore to 4.0 as apple has stopped signing 4.0, let it restore to 4.0.1 and use redsn0w to jailbreak. Same thing point to 4.0 ipsw while jailbreaking. This soft signing starting at 4.0 requires shsh blogs for 3G

Don't forget to save your shsh blobs after proceeding as explained by yeow202.

Id go up to 3.1.x rather than 4.0.1. On a 3G it causes lag and freezes even with wallpaper and multitask disabled. Just my personal experience. After 2 weeks I couldnt stand it anymore and downgraded to 3.1.3 again. Up to you tho, personally I think 3.1.x runs much better on a 3G. That and some Cydia stuff dont work on 4.0 but that matters to me just cuz I use things that 4.0 doesnt support.

If you want, you can go for 4.x and disable the spotlight. There's a thread here about that. I did it on my 3G and the performance really improves.
    Anyways, it's up to you.
