Yes you can but you will have to Perserve ya baseband before ya do anything. Or ya baseband will be updated and won't be able to use the phone.

Yes I thought that..so I use the custom ipsw for the 5.1.1 with redsn0w right? and it will work with the gevey sim? can I also use the ultrasn0w to unlock it for not doing the process of dialing 112 and airplane mode?
    Thank you!

Ya don't need ultrasnow just a gevy will work. But save that firmware or you will be screwed.

One last question do I have to jailbreak it again after the upgrade or does it stay like it is with the cydia apps?

If you're on a Mac, Apple says this would be the solution:

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
