I'm on a familytalk plan with my iphone. Basically, you just tell an at&t rep when you get your phone that you are putting it on the family plan, they will transfer your phone number over and that's that. I believe however you are required to get a data plan. It isn't much though, my family pays for the voice part and I pay for the data. It's only 20 bucks a month for unlimited data usage and 200 text messages. You can up your texts to 1500 a month for only 10 bucks more.

Unfortunately you cant share minutes on data, just talk and I think they now have a shared texting plan.

If you have to pay for data (which adds up really quickly) the $20 is a bargain. Before I had the iPhone I needed to tether my cell to my laptop to send email and look up a website or two and I ended up with a $60 data charge (I had the 1MB Media Net at the time)

I ended up with the iPhone because I had been in the market of a Windows Mobile PDA Phone and was pretty much settled on getting the ATT 8525 when the price drop for the iPhone was announced. I looked at both phones and the iPhone was a nobrainer. Not only did I not have to carry three devices around (cell, PDA and iPod) but the data plan is a great deal. The ATT unlimited PDA plan is almost twice as expensive.

can you share the minutes of a data plan?

i dont see why it cant be just like any other phone though.

downgradin and unlocking for tmobile will be too muhc a hassle
I don't understand what you mean. How do you share data minutes? There are no data minutes... There are voice minutes, of which you share. The data is unlimited data and has nothing to do with minutes. The $20 really is quite a good deal for having no limit.

Your dad shouldn't have bought you a $400 phone if he couldn't afford the plan to go with it. Sell the phone and get one when you have a job and pay the bill.

I have 2 iphones on my ATT family plan. Besides the one-time activation fee all it will mean is an extra $20 a month for unlimited data iPhone plan which I believe includes something like 200 text messages. Essentially the ONLY difference is that whomever in the plan that has the iPhone will pay the $20 a month.

well to be an ***, im only 14 (turning 15 on feb 5th, thats when i get my iphone). so my dad payed like 150 a month for me when i overused my minutes (way too f***ing much), so i guess if its 80 a month, he wont notice ($60 familytalk voice + data plan).

soo whatever... hopefully he wont notice.

whats the activation charge for each phone?
Perhaps your dad should present you with lessons on how to properly express your opinions without using profanity, (especially at your age), instead of giving you an iPhone. Your lack of decent verbal skills does not merit an instrument as elegant as the iPhone.

Good call, and with the ziphone unlock it couldn;t be easier. Literally 3 cliks and 3 minutes of time and you are done.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

    1. Activate a family plan with as many phones as you want.
    2. Make your phone a very cheap phone that gives you a rebate.
    3. When activating your iPhone through iTunes, select replace phone in family plan
    4. Tada... your old phone is now serviceless and your iPhone is all set. 20 dollars a month.

I can understand unlocking the phone for international use or for current non-ATT customers. But if you do use data regardless how slow edge is, where can you find a cheaper data plan?
