the o is gprs data, the lowest Iphone internet speed. The E is edge, the current "middle" speed, between gprs and 3G

Well, actually WAP is the slowest, but this phone doesn't support that

    Isn't WAP over GPRS?
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream!

No WAP is what you used to get on the Nokia 3330

Technically, WAP is the software protocol (Application Layer in the networking model) on top of the wireless data bearer (which makes up the lower layers of the Networking model). WAP is can be implemented on many different data bearers, including ('GSM family' examples) SMS (what was used in your example, the Nokia 3330), [E]GPRS and HSxPA.

WAP browsers are still common even on 3G-capable phones. WAP itself isn't slow, the underlying data connection determines the speed.

That said that Nokia had data speeds about the equivalent to a early-mid 1990's modem... dog slow.

My dad used to be a Telecommunications Software Engineer for NEC and as a result we have about 20 books explaining UMTS, GPRS and HSPDA...dead boring stuff. :-/
