I'm about half way into my 2 yr T-Mobile contract with my 3GS. I really don't want to cancel and pay an ETF and go to AT&T.

I actually have a friend in the UK who is going to help me buy a factory unlocked iPhone 4 and ship it here to the US. But before I send him the money can anyone confirm that if I cut the US T-Mobile sim card into a micro sim will it work in the iPhone 4? I heard the gold plating on the T-Mobile sim differs from the AT&T micro sim. So I'm a little hesitant to do this.

I tried searching but there doesn't seem to be any answers.

It will, Basically thats the same SIM but with less Plastic!
So if you cut the Plastic right, you'll get it to work with iPhone 4.

I cut a spare T-Mobile sim I had laying around and put it in my iPhone 4(US Locked). At first it popped up with no bars logo, not carrier obviously, for a few minutes then said no service. I didn't get any sim errors but I know it still not full proof evidence that it may work. Hope this helps.

How do you think you may get service while you're device looked to AT&T ?!

I'm not saying it will get service. I'm just saying it's a good sign that I didn't get any sim errors after cutting it down to fit

Other people have said theyve inserted a cut tmobile sim into there att locked phone and it says invalid sim meaning the sim is being read. but can anyone confirm that the gold plating is the same?

But after reading all the twitter and forum discussions, I sold it to make a profit. Now I have all this money but no iPhone. Would your friend be willing to buy me one too lol? prreaase!
