Hi I came across a sim card that unlocks phones and it says it can unlock the iphone. Is that possible or not.

Ah turboSIM! I remember using those on 2.x! Actaully I think they go up to 3.0 and that's where they stop lol.

They were a pain in the tail lol, only worked half the time. I am pretty sure 2.2.1 saw the end to them. Once 3.0 rolled around we have had pretty consistent unlocks with ultrasnow.

Gevey went up to OS 3 but it was really pointless because of the software unlocks. I remember thinking how stupid it was they even came out with it when the software unlock was out first. I think Rebel might have been the one to do that actually, can't remember, but they no longer sell them obviously.

I think the quality wasn't bad with the Gevey 3G line, I used it for a time until yellowsn0w was updated. The software unlock was of course better though.

Ya, I think I used some gevey's myself. None of them were any good at getting data working though.

I think my data was just ok, but I did struggle to keep it connected so I agree with that. Well good riddance lol

    Do you have 4.1 SHSH?
This is another new one to me. What is and where do I find SHSH info? Is it the restore files? It had 4.1 until iTunes auto updated, so not sure if / how I can rollback?

What tutorial do I follow for this part of the job?

    Ta.

Download tiny umbrella, connect your device and press save SHSH to see what you get.

Right the problem is, my phone is stuck on apple logo, I tried restoring through DFU on iTunes and it comes up as 'could not restore ..... problem ... error 2000' words to that effect.

So can I still install and use tiny umbrella? iTunes had already installed the latest update 4.21 once already from existing 4.1.

And to recap I installed the BB patch and then phone 'stuck' installing the Ultrasnow unlock because I rebooted through Cydia.

And did you try using redsnow to boot tethered?

You can find your ecid manually, just google how to do it. Then you can put that ecid into tiny umbrella manually and save your SHSH.

Thanks again for guiding me through this, I'm smiling again.

I couldn't get off the apple logo recovery mode through iTunes restore, redsn0w tethered boot or by reinstalling redsn0w baseband, etc.

So, I downloaded USBview to find my ECID. This actually showed two configurations (0x0004 and 0x0009), which may have been the issue. I have now got that down to one again.

Then I downloaded TinyUmbrella, found I had SHSH backups (4.1 / 4.2.1 / 4.3b2) so then managed to restore to 4.1 using Tiny Umbrella ispw and shift+restore on iTunes. So I am very happy about that.

I then followed the redsn0w upgrade again to have baseband 06.00.15 on my iPhone.

I have updated Cydia to the latest version then installed ultrasn0w 1.2 through Cydia, to have the phone unlocked to all networks...

I think the funky space monkey redsn0w tutorial should definitely have advice at the top to use tinyumbrella first to make a backup of SHSH in case of problems upgrading.

Mission complete. Thanks so much for your advice at every turn.

Ok, here is what I am dealing with:

I just got a 3Gs, with 4.2.1 iOS, modem firmware 5.15.04, and I'm on T-Mobile. Got the phone jailbroken (Redsn0w 0.9.6b6), but not unlocked at least as far as I can tell. It is the old (8792566B3NQ) 3Gs, with bootrom of 359.3.

Am I surmising correctly that I cannot downgrade the firmware/iOS, neither can I unlock it for use with T-Mobile?

If that is not the case, what am I missing?

you can only unlock if you update your baseband to the iPad one. You should also use idetector to find out your bootrom as serial number isnt always that accurate.
