Ya, seems the gevey sim can unlock it. Not sure how reliable it is though.

hey i have the same problem... Did you ever get it fixed?
I've seen this one time before. What I did was restored the iPhone and rejailbroke. It seemed to fix the issue

Yes, I keep it up to date. No there is no unlock for that baseband yet (except for the gevey sim).

Hey guys need some homework help here

    ok, here's my setup:
    iphone 3G
orginally had it JB with Cydia then decided to upgrade firmware, so now thanks to itunes I have

    -Firmware 4.2.1
    -baseband 5.15
am guessing that was a rookie error, right?

    Solution (i've read so far)....
is to use redsn0w to upgrade baseband to 6.15, then launch ultrasn0w via cydia (i have XP and cant use pwnage)

I'm new to all this, so just wanting to double check my facts 1st

    1. there's no way to downgrade your baseband
    2. baseband 6.15 leaves some users with loss of GPS / bluetooth
    3. Apple will detect baseband 6.15 if you connect to itunes. Given that this baseband shouldnt be on an iphone that may make them a tad angry
    4. i should use custom firmware to get round this??

So is that about the size of it? Just needing some reassurance before I do this

iTunes will not detect that you have the iPad baseband, no worries there. Everything else seems like you are pretty much on the ball. You can download f0recast and check what bootloader you have first. If you are very lucky you may have 5.8 bootloader which would mean you can downgrade your baseband instead of having to update to the iPad baseband.

Hi I'd like to find out about upgrading and unlocking my iPhone 4. I bought it second-hand from someone and it was already jailbroken and unlocked, but I want to upgrade it to a newer version of the firware as some of my apps are crashing because it's on the old firmare.

    4.0.1 (8A306)

I don't know if the person that I bought it from ever clicked on the "Make my life easier" text in Cydia. But I downloaded Tiny Umbrella and clicked on Save SSH and I got the following in the log:

In Cydia at the top I see in green letters: "iOS 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3b1"

So to summarize, I want to upgrade to the newest version that I'll be able to both unlock and jailbreak. Thanks for reading!

Shouldnt be a problem, Just start the TSS server in tiny umbrella then shift restore to a 4.2.1 firmware. You will get a error 1013 near the end of the process. Just use greenpoison at this point to jailbreak it and boot it up. Do not restore to 4.3 or 4.3.1.

Thanks I just did all of that. I finished got the 1013 error, then I used Greenpoison to jailbreak it, got the skull logo and everything, and now I'm back to the screen that says I should plug it into iTunes.

However, when I open iTunes now it's saying that The SIM card inserted isn't supported...so how do I unlock it? Did I do something incorrectly? Should I open a new thread for this?

If you have a official carrier sim then you can activate with that. If not you can use redsnow 0.9.6rc8 to do it. Just choose to install cydia with it.

    Im back again, sorry

I used redsnow with Cydia and it installed fine, and now I can get into the phone and do everything that I normally can, except that I keep getting "No Service" even thought I haven't changed the SIM or anything. Could something have gone wrong with the unlock or something? Is there any way I can check using software to see if it's unlocked properly?

EDIT: Figured it out, I had to do this: http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-4.2...-how-to-guide/

Yup, ultrasnow is the unlock. That has to be installed.

So I just got an Iphone 3gs running on 4.3 and baseband 5.16.01. Is it possible to downgrade my baseband to a lower one that allows me unlock it or should i just wait until the devs. come out with an unlock for my current baseband? I'm really tempted to just upgrade to 6.15 and unlock there, but hearing so much about the GPS hardware it stops me from doing it because i dont wanna screw myself up in the end. (GPS is whatever to me, but you never know when you can need it

Baseband for your device cannot be downgraded.

I would avoid the iPad baseband, it presents a couple more roadblocks than just the GPS issue as well. But its up to you if you think it is worth it. Another unlock, there hasn't been much word on progress on that ATM.

Thanks i.Annie I'm just really exicted and been wanting to have an iphone as a phone for so long but my friend restored it to delete her stuff -__-. Nonetheless, I don't mind being patient waiting to see if there will be another software to unlock my iphone with what I have now. I just hope its sooner then later.
