4.2.1 is the highest a iPhone 3G can go. Installing the iPad baseband is pretty safe as long as you follow the instructions. You will lose GPS doing it though.

Latest iTunes is fine. Although that has nothing to do with what you said you need to do.

Will using the latest redsn0w work too?

No, you need redsnow 0.9.6rc17 or lower. 0.9.6rc8 I find to be the best for iPhone 3G.

    Hi again Simon,
I'm having problem with fast-draining of the battery with iOS5. I tried steps mentioned here iOS 5 Battery Life Worse? Fix Draining Battery Problems with these Tips but the battery still drains fast. I believe the apps that were not reinstalled into my iPhone could be the culprit (as mentioned earlier, only 40 out of 100 apps were reinstalled). I can see them in many places including notifications, location services etc, even though I don't have them on my iPhone. I'm thinking of going back to the fresh, newly upgraded state to see whether this will resolve my problem. I have saved all the photos, SMS, documents etc from before the upgrade, so, I don't mind if I start fresh again. Appreciate if you can inform me what is the best way for me to do this. Here are some ways I can think of:
    1) Restore from backup from one just after the upgrade
    2) Hard reset (press Power + Home)
    3) Do the jailbreak process again
    Appreciate for your help
    Thank you

Sounds like jailbreak issues from your old backup. I'd suggest doing the process again but this time setting up as new.

    Hey Simon,
I was trying to help a friend fix his wifi that was grayed out no MAC (Camera and Bluetooth Also did not work Bluetooth had MAC address) and got stuck in the infinite restart cycle, not knowing any better I restored via iTunes which took the IPhone 3GS 16gb from Baseband 5.12.01 Firmware 3.1.3 to Baseband 5.16.05 Firmware 5.0.1 (9A405), Now I can't seem to figure out the best way to Unlock his IPhone and Still retain Edge Access to work on the Simple Mobile Network as it did.

I deciphered the Serial# using f0recast- v1.3 which leads me to believe that it was manufactured on 37th week of 2009; I now know that I should have used redsn0w, to reflash the firmware without altering the baseband but I think it's too late for that.

I read about updating the Baseband to the Ipad's 6.15.00 but am weary of bricking it due to the NVRAM issue. What do you think is best?

    Appreciate the Help

As long as it isnt after the 35th week of 2011 I think the iPad baseband should work on it. There is no going back after though and it will break gps.

Thanks Simon. I'm having second thought about doing the process again. I think for now, the battery issue is manageable Tq

    Hi Simon,
I found that iMessage & FaceTime have,'waiting for activation' for my phone no (email is ok). I read some sites like which mentioned the use of SAM to resolve this problem. If I use, maybe, 'restore from backup', & greyed out 'Restore' button problem can be resolved too. Do you recommend to use this SAM method for us gevey users? Your help is greatly appreciated. Tq

    Hi Simon,
How about the steps in this guide?

    1. Go to (CarrierLab.bundle or 00101 folder) /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/iPhone/00101/carrier.plist
    2. Add < key >PhoneNumberRegistrationGatewayAddress< string >+011447786205094< /string >
    3. Set < key >RedialOnRRCConnectionFailure< /key ><true/>
    4. Now go to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles/iPhone/Unknown.bundles/carrier.plist
    5. ADD -> "+011" To all the 10 numbers you see under:
    < key >PhoneNumberRegistrationGatewayAddress< /key >
    6. Save & reboot
Will the above steps resolve this problem?
    Thank you

I've got a 3gs with the serial 87126xxxxx 4.3.3, checked with f0recast and it says upgrade to ipad BB(original BB is 5.16.02)... still do you guys think it would safe to unlock?

The phone was made in 2011 during week 26....

How should I go about this? upgrade to 5.0.1 with preserved BB and then upgrade to Ipad BB?
