So many people are flipping out about the new IMEI unlock.

It's like reading a messageboard about lockpicking and saying "Hey guys, I found a GUARANTEED way to pick a Medeco lock. It's so easy! Just pay the guy who owns the lock $175 and get a copy of his key! WORKS PERMANENTLY."

Is paying $175 to get an IMEI unlock from someone on the inside "modding" your iPhone? Using that logic, you may as well sell your old iPhone on eBay for $200-300, then join AT&T and get their $49 brand-new 3GS.

Yeah, we'll see how long it takes Apple to figure this out and blacklist all of AT&T iPhones.

It would seem they will have to make some major changes to their system. From what I understand we always believed the whitelist database was specific to carrier. It now appears that its just one big database for all carriers.

If they want to stop this they are going to have to change to whole whitelist process.

This is true, it's just one DB that Apple has.
