    Hi!

I have a big problem! I got an iPhone 3GS from a friend that changed to the new iPhone 4. He had it looked on its operator and I have a different one. I tried jailbreaking it with redsn0w and something had to go wrong.
Not it doesnt boot up, stays stuck on the apple logo.
Before I tried the jailbreak, it was asking to connect to iTunes.
Now I cannot even restore the iPhone to original/official fw with iTunes. I get a message saying that my device doesnt support this build.
What can I do? Please help!

    1) iPhone 3GS

    2) 4.2.1 (I think)

    3) I want to unlock to be able to have my sim card

    4) no SHSHs saved

    5) it has the new boot devide

OK. I was able to do a full official restore with iTunes to the last fw 4.3.3.
What's the best way now to unlock the iPhone in order to be able to use my sim card?
I dont need it unlock. I just want to be able to have my sim card in it. I would like to have it as an "original" "oficial" iPhone, with no ilegal software in it, if possible.
    Thanks.

What carrier is the phone locked to?

You are being a bit confusing, you say you want to unlock it but then you say you dont need to unlock.

    Telia, from Sweden.
Now I have no access to the phone.
    Just the iTunes connect screen.
Dont know baseband and no other info.
    What should I do?
Will it work if I make a custom fw with Pwnage?

    Yes, correct.
It is locked to Telia and I want to unlock to use it with my sim card from Tele2 (also Sweden).

Ok, first thing I would suggest is call up Telia and ask them how or if you can get them to unlock it for you. They may be able to officially unlock it for you which would be by far the best option for you.

They wont unlock it at the moment unfortunately.
    What else can I do?

Your only other option is using redsnow to install the ipad baseband. It will break gps and void any warranty you may have though. And there is no reversing it.

I got this info from f0recast:

    Serial #: 84928M...
    Baseband: 05.16.02
    Bootloader: 6.4
    Model: MC637

    Jailbreakable? Only with SHSH Blobs.
    Unlockable? No
    Tethered? Depends on jailbreak.

Your only other option is using redsnow to install the ipad baseband. It will break gps and void any warranty you may have though. And there is no reversing it.
So it means the GPS wont work? Anything else that wont work? Will it be a jailbroken iPhone or simple unlocket iPhone?
And later, if I want to restore it and make an official unlock with Telia. Will I be able to reverse the process?

You will have to jailbreak to unlock. You will not be able to reverse the process if you decide to get it officially unlocked. Its a one way street.

    no prob, good luck

    Hi again.
    One more question.
Do you think another carrier would be able to unlock this iPhone?
It is locked to Telia (from Sweden). If I go to another carrier, you think they can unlock it or only Telia itself can?
    Thanks.

    Only Telia themselves.

Are you 100% sure about that?

Well only the official carrier which the iPhone was locked to is supposed to be officially able to unlock it. However some posts here said that some ppl on AT&T ordered sims from carriers in UK to get their iPhone registered in those carriers' network and were then able to unlock when the sales rep. was careless, so you can always try your luck. But most likely they will tell you that your iPhone was locked to another carrier's network and will tell you to contact them. So, what can I say, you can always try your luck. Good luck!

I see. OK, thanks a lot!
    One more question.
Is there anyway to check how old my iPhone is?
I still only have it with the iTunes connect screen.

I think you can check when it was purchased based on the serial from Apple's site, can't remember where there exactly though. Try looking for something where to check the warranty you have left and it should ask you for the serial. I'd search for it, but it's a bit cumbersome on iPhone.

Ok I think it should be here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
Surprisingly, it's down for maintenance atm so I can't tell for sure, but it's pretty sure that link.
