I have a 3GS with base band 05.13.04 that was updated to iOS 4.3.3 using custom firmware made by PwnageTool (then unlocked using Ultrasn0w). I think that the "Activate the phone" option was employed in making the custom firmware. Unfortunately, I did not save the SHSH for 4.3.3 before 4.3.4 came out.

There now seem to be some battery life issues with the phone. Since I do have an AT&T SIM card, I was wondering if I can simply make a new, custom 4.3.3 firmware without the "Activate the phone" option in PwnageTool, then activate with the AT&T SIM before unlocking. Can I reinstall 4.3.3 again saved without the SHSH? Might this strategy improve the battery life?

    Thanks for any answers!

Have you tried checking cydia to see if it saved your shsh blobs automatically? TU will save it if you did it manually which it seems you didnt. I would check first and see if anything comes up.

If not then you just might be out of luck as it currently isn't being signed anymore. Do you have any other shsh blobs saved?

Thanks! I'll need to check on the SHSH blobs (I don't have the phone with me, now). If I do have them, do I use TinyUmbrella to reinstall 4.3.3? (I've never gone backward in FW before.)

Or, is SAM worth a try on the activation issue?

If you have them saved on cydia then I would connect the device and use tiny umbrella and go under the advanced tab and make sure the "request shsh from cydia" is checked.

Click the save shsh button to save it to your pc for a backup
    Run TU's tss server
Shift/Restore through iTunes and select the appropriate cfw (if this is what you are using to preserve the baseband)
When finished select Fix Recovery through TU if the 1013 error occurs
If you have the ATT sim then it should activate for you
Jailbreak using redsn0w and install ultrasn0w through cydia

When you create custom firmware with pwnage tool the firmware is already jailbroken. There is no need to run Redsn0w to jailbreak it.
You do not get 1013 baseband errors with custom firmware.
